Agenda

So here we go :

My talk today consisted of a formal introduction to PESITBSC Firefox Club, detailing upon the previous events we’ve conducted and what the future awaits for us. I briefed upon ‘Bootcamp to Mozilla’ last year, which was a huge congregation of over 200 students on campus – helped a lot of us to get started with Mozilla contributions. This then gave way into Mozilla’s mission and a discussion about the 4 freedoms we live by, as laid down by the Free Software Foundation. Later in the session, I took up a demo on installing Firefox on Windows 10 platform and showed participants how to make it default. I concluded my talk with a quick showcase of 3D view on Firefox and my own contribution story with Mozilla.

Which was followed by a Privacy talk by Bhoomika,

My talk was on Net neutrality. It was more of an open debate rather than a discussion!
It started with ” what is net neutrality?” Different examples focusing on the actual meaning of net neutrality were given to the attendees. In the second part, we discussed why net neuttality is so important for us and why should we support it? The role of mozilla in support of net neutrality was explained in detail.

I took up a brief session about Firefox Developer Tools. I started by showing how to access developer tools from any page. I then went on to demonstrate the different developer tools available in Firefox. Inspector was the first of these tools to be covered. I demoed how any part of a web page can be selected using the inspect element button, and subsequently how its HTML and CSS can be edited, with changes being reflected live.

Next up was the Web Console. I briefly discussed how any JavaScript code can be executed on the current page using the Web Console.

After touching on the Style Editor and discussing how it can be used to view or edit all the CSS styles used by a web page, I moved on the Network Monitor. I talked about the various requests that are sent to a server when a web page is requested and demonstrated how one can see all these requests and their responses with the associated metadata through the Network Monitor.

With that I concluded my talk. I hope it helped any aspiring web developers in the audience. 🙂
